Team Ipswich - Promoting Sport in Ipswich, Promoting Ipswich through Sport

Karen Pickering MBE

Team Ipswich, set up by Ipswich Borough Council and its partners and led by Karen Pickering MBE (pictured right), is a campaign to further develop sport in the town and make Ipswich the Gateway to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. It involves the whole community so that those who live or work in Ipswich regardless of age and sporting ability can access facilities and have the opportunity to reach their potential.

The goal is for Ipswich’s top sporting talent to get the coaching and finance they need to reach the highest level and be part of the Olympic and Paralympics teams. The campaign has already won backing from Olympic stars Sir Steve Redgrave OBE, Steve Cram MBE and Daley Thompson OBE.

As well as creating sporting excellence, Team Ipswich is promoting the town and its world class facilities to international teams needing a training base. Located close to the Olympics 2012 site which is just 45 minutes away by train, Ipswich is also an ideal destination for visitors to the games.
