Ipswich Police are proud to support “Game – on 2007” and “Jumpers for Goalposts 2007” a fantastic programme of free sporting activities specifically for young people in Ipswich.
The schemes have been made possible by a number of local partner agencies including Suffolk Police, Ipswich Borough Council (IBC), Sport England, RESPECT, Positive Futures, Ipswich Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, Team Ipswich and local Suffolk County Councillors.
The “Game – on 2007” team of qualified coaches will be touring Ipswich sports centres from Monday 30th July until Friday 24th August running (non contact) boxing, basketball, street dance and martial arts activities for children aged 10 to 16 years old.
The “Jumpers for Goalposts” teams of qualified coaches will be touring Ipswich parks and recreation grounds between Monday 30th July and Friday 24th August organising football sessions for children of any age.
All sessions are free, they are open to all abilities, and there is no need to book, just turn up and join in.
Posters and fixture cards were distributed by police to all high schools and CO-OP shops by Friday 13th July and the coaches have been in the neighbourhoods this week drumming up interest in the activities on offer.
Adam Baker – Team Ipswich Manager from IBC said, "I'm delighted that this year we've been able to provide over 175 free sports coaching sessions for local Ipswich youngsters in their local neighbourhoods. I'm absolutely sure it will be a great success. My thanks must go to the various agencies, organisations and individuals that have come together to make the Roadshow a reality."
Chief Inspector Bruce Robinson – Ipswich District Commander said, “Ipswich Police have been busy this week promoting these sporting activities and giving away fixture cards and free session vouchers to youngsters they have come in contact with. I would encourage Ipswich youngsters to make the most of these activities. I frequently see groups hanging around in the streets who when approached say they have nowhere to go and nothing to do. We have listened and taken them seriously and following a lot of hard work by a number of agencies these free summer activities have been made possible. So, get your mates together and go and have some legal, healthy and free fun.”
