Ipswich Borough Council’s Team Ipswich are busy preparing competitors for this year's Redrow Homes Suffolk Youth Games - the largest multi-sport festival for young people in the county. The Ipswich teams will be competing against the six other local authorities in Suffolk in a wide range of sports, on Sunday 11th July in Bury St Edmunds.
The Council has partnered with several Ipswich clubs who helping Ipswich get ready, providing expert coaching and training to help participants compete at their best in the Games. The training camps are all either free or low cost as they are supported by Sport Unlimited, who are responsible for extending opportunities for young people.
To represent Team Ipswich, entrants must live or go to school in the borough of Ipswich and must meet the age criteria for their chosen sport. Young people can attend as many training programmes as they wish, but can only represent Team Ipswich in one sport on the day of the event.
Councillor Andrew Cann, Culture & Sport portfolio-holder, said: “The Suffolk Youth Games is an excellent showcase for sport and fitness across the county and I hope many youngsters here take advantage of this opportunity. Our partnership will provide training and this will hopefully produce greater levels of fitness and achievement as well as the fun of taking part in an established and Suffolk-wide competition.”
