Team Ipswich Education

It’s official - more children are now more active thanks to Team Ipswich.  A drive to employ a team of Community Sports Coaches in the town and get more young people playing sport than ever before is proving successful.

Community Sports Coaches are already in place for basketball, cricket, cycling, judo and racket sports and progress in increasing the numbers of children taking part in sport has been significant.

In just 3 months part-time Community Cricket Coach Peter Bennett-King provided coaching to almost 2,000 children in 20 schools whilst in just 9 months Community Basketball Coach Nick Drane gave over 730 hours of coaching to 1,500 young people.

The community sports coaches’ project has been made possible with the hard work of Copleston Sports College, Westbourne High School, Holywells High School and Positive Futures.

To coordinate an Ipswich wide approach to sport and recreation for children, a forum has been established representing the key agencies that impact on school sport and the pathways from school sport to club sport.    Representatives from  Copleston and Westbourne Sports Colleges and School Sport Partnerships,  the Ipswich Primary School Sports Association and the Suffolk Positive Futures Project have all joined Team Ipswich on this important group.
