That’s why clubs are a key part of Team Ipswich and a ‘Club Summit’ held in 2006 launched a plan for club development in the town.

The plan will help clubs in:

  • Publicising achievements and raising Club profiles. A weekly junior sport supplement Grass Roots, in association with Ipswich Evening Star, publishes news on sporting achievements, local teams and facilities and has regular features about Ipswich’s top clubs and coaching matters.

  • Rewarding coaches and volunteers. Their dedication and contribution to sport often passes unnoticed. The first Club Recognition event has been held and was a resounding success.

  • Promoting skills and sharing knowledge. For example, a coach summit has been held to better understand the challenges coaches face and explore how their expertise can be shared.

  • Giving support. With reduced price clothing, transport, equipment and support services such as physiotherapy. Ipswich Borough Council reduces facility hire charges by up to 45% for those clubs who meet recognised Sport England good practice standards. A dedicated Club Development Officer assists clubs in unlocking support and funding from other agencies.

Ipswich training consultancy Adapt, a sponsor of Team Ipswich, has also begun work with sports coaches to assess and offer personal development in areas such as people management, motivation and team building.

"We are really excited that Team Ipswich will increase our profile within the local area and enable us to learn from other sporting organisations. In addition, the direct support to our international players and youngsters will significantly help with retaining and recruiting quality hockey players."
Emma Millar, Vice Chair of Ipswich Hockey Club
